Tropical Storm Karen Recap

On October 8, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) began tracking a gale-force non-tropical low for possible tropical development. By October 9, thunderstorms became more organized, and the system transitioned into Subtropical Storm Karen, losing its frontal characteristics. Karen formed unusually far north at 44.5°N, the northernmost formation on record for an Atlantic storm. Initially shielded from wind shear by its upper-level low, Karen reached peak winds of 45 mph and a minimum pressure of 998 mbar. However, as it moved over colder waters, convection dissipated, and the NHC issued its final advisory late on October 10.
